Sacred Symbols #1 - Fasting

There are things we do, in the physical world that have an affect, an impact, in the spiritual world, things like sharing the Lords Supper or Baptism.

We do these things because we recognise there is more going on than what we see with our physical eyes.

We do things that do things

Some of these things we do often, like communion every month others we do less often - even though the bible clearly says this is something New Testament believers should do - things like: anointing with oil when we pray for the sick, confessing our sins to one another, the public reading of scripture, or fasting

These things that do things - these sacred symbols - things we do in the physical because we know they have an impact in the spiritual - even if we don’t understand fully how or why these sacred symbols are our theme between now and Easter. Each week we will look at a different sacred symbol and how it fits, according to the bible, into the Christian life and the life of the Church

And we start with Fasting…
